Sprouts Markets digitize the facility carrier experience with Vector YMS

At Sprouts Farmers Market, we are dedicated to streamlining our supply chain. To support achieving that goal, we’ve implemented Vector to digitalize our driver check-in process. Ultimately, our mission as a company is to deliver the freshest product possible to our customers.

Darrin Moore, 3PL Operations Manager – Sprouts:
We have two different companies that work for us. We have a third-party logistics transportation as well as a third-party logistics warehouse operations. I hold them accountable for all Sprouts activity, for loading the trucks, for maintaining inventory control, for waste, those type of things. Our building is unique. Now that we’ve expanded, we have two different sides of our building, and we have two different temperature zones of product that we get. What Vector is allowing us to do is to pre-schedule trucks. They can go straight to the door on the other side, and then they can communicate through Vector and have a direct line to the drivers.

Sharla Holden, Inbound Clerk – Penske Logistics:
In the beginning, they said that it seemed like it was pretty easy. It was simple when we did work them through the steps, if they did not understand how to do it. Overall, it seems to be adopting pretty well. When I’m coaching a driver to use Vector, I will help them open their camera up and scan the QR code, and then the next step is they’ll ask for their PO number, which is located at the top right corner of their paperwork, and it’ll check them in through the Vector. And then once we see that they’re checked in through the Vector, it’ll send them a message telling them what door they have been assigned.
Once they put their information in, it saves their information for their next trip. The next time they do come in, all they have to do is just give their new PO that’s on their new paperwork for their delivery that load that day. When they scan in, they’re partial of their BOL, because sometimes the drivers do have multiples and we ask them that they only have to do scan in one. When they do bring it in, we match it up with what they have scanned. We’re able to zoom into it, and we’re able to get all of the information and match it up with what the driver brings in.

So using this QR code system that Vector provides, super easy, super accessible, I can’t even express enough how convenient this system is.

I think the big thing was is how easy it was. Sometimes people are intimidated with technology and that type of stuff, and once they were able to pull it up on the screen, along with our warehouse management system that we use now, they were really surprised at how easy the communication flows between the two applications and how easy it was to use. I don’t know, I just kind of geek out on the technology.

I would definitely recommend Vector to any other facility that is willing to adopt it. It simplifies the process for the drivers and it makes them feel more comfortable.

I’ve seen that the yard is managed more efficiently because what we’re doing is not holding up a line, aggravating other drivers.
